HELP! I CAN’T ESCAPE MY MIND! Design Statement By Kai M Huntoon

HELP! I CAN’T ESCAPE MY MIND!  Explores the problematic ideology of perceptive viewpoints. We as humans, naturally want to “fit in“, however who is deeming our acceptance our acceptance other than the tainted minds surrounding us? We find our acceptance based off of affirmation, but the person affirming us is using their perceptive ideas to deem us as acceptable, which leaves us in a constant need for approval. This garment design translates the haunting concept by using a  large and bulky silhouette; leaving the shape of the body an unknown factor. Much similarly to the perspective view of our surroundings being most of the time: unknown. The exaggerated collar and tie also plays a role in delivering a realm of fantasy elements due to their enlarged and exaggerated nature. The design will be constructed in a refined and clean manner, that translates the idea of artificial refinery and cleanliness. The design will also be constructed with a full lining, that replicates the exterior shell of the garment. The center back will house a zipper closure, that will be covered with a faux button c Lastly, the materials and fixtures used translate an idea of artificial fantasy that can be seen in their respective textures and repetitive nature. The garment in entirety, translates an idea of haunting fantasy based off perception, with the use of artificial elements, while drawing inspiration from designers like Thom Browne, Balenciaga, and Valentino.
